What Does Pain In The Lower Quadrant After Lifting Heavy Objects Indicate?

my friend lifted a case of food at work. He immediately felt pain in his left lower quad. He noticed a bulge. He did feel a tearing sensation. It was about as big as a golf ball. The bulge is gone but now his left testicle is very swollen. I tried to get him to go to see a doc the day after it happened but he did not go. I am a nurse and tried to explain the seriousness but he did not listen. now he is upset about the left testicle swelling. again i advised he needs to see a doctor. am i right?

Hello,

Yes, you are absolutely right in asking your friend to go to a doctor. The most probable conditions that would fit your friend's diagnosis are inguinal hernia, hydrocele, varicocele, scrotal edema, testicular tumor, and epidydimal cyst.

He needs to go to a surgeon for thorough clinical examination and if necessary few tests for a specific diagnosis and appropriate treatment. The complications that may arise if not treated are intestinal strangulation and ischemia if hernia goes untreated, testicular torsion, infection, pyocele, hematocele, atrophy of testes, infertility (resulting from the spermatogenesis halt due to increased pressure on the blood supply on the testis from edema), rupture, and hernia of hydrocele.

Please explain about the above mentioned complications to your friend and persuade him to go to a surgeon.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hello,

Yes, you are absolutely right in advising your friend to see a doctor in person. The following may be the causes of pain and swollen left testicle:
1) Inguinal hernia
2) Hydrocele
3) Varicocele
4) Spermatocele
5) Testicular tumors
6) Sebaceous cyst

Your friend needs a detailed clinical examination and any tests like ultrasonography abdomen and scrotum if necessary. If neglected, complications like by bowel obstruction and gangrene, pressure effects on testis can occur. So see a surgeon as soon as possible.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
