Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have extreme pain in my neck that appears to be gland pain but it is more in the muscles of my neck. When I bend over it throbs. Alieve helps the pain but at times it prevents me from sleeping. I smashed my chin two weekends ago and I do have TMJ. My bite was off for a few hours but the jaw pain did go away. Now, over the past few days, I do have jaw pain on both sides that does radiate down my neck. If I run, my jaw and neck hurt. I did see a dentist and he advised my jaw was not broken. I also saw a regular doctor and did not have strep throat.
As you have got injury over the chin, it has definitely caused injury to the jaw joint or the TMJ.. Although the jawbone is not broken but traumatic injury to the jaw joint can cause injury to the ligaments and musculature that supports the jaw joint.. There is also a possibility of rupture of the soft ligament present in between the two bony ends of the jaw joint known as Articular disc.. So my suggestion is to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated.. You can be advised painkillers along with muscle relaxants like Tizanidine.. Take soft diet and avoid excess mouth opening.. You can also be advised Physiotherapy to reduce pain and discomfort..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
