What Does Pain In The Right Thumb Joint Indicate?

My right thumb joint has gradually become larger and more painful as I have been on tamoxifen for 4 yearsnow. Im a 62 yr old woman, and i use an ergonomic mouse & keyboard when i do mydaily work on my computer. But it isn t preventing a lot of pain by late in the day.. I also have Fibromyalgia and miserable muscle pain, and m taking several medicationsand supplements to help with that. How can i treat this thumb so that i can continue to do my computer work? I am self employed and quitting is not an option.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Isolated thumb joint swelling and pain are mostly seen with gout, traumatic injury, synovial effusion etc. So better to consult orthopedic doctor and get done clinical examination and X-ray. You may need MRI of thumb also. Also get done serum uric acid level.
If it is high then you will need Febuxostat to lower uric acid. If it is effusion then you need to aspirate it.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
