What Does Pain In The Tailbone Be Treated?

I have lower back pain from the tailbone (which years ago I had removed because I broke it) and the pain goes across my lower back just above the crack of my butt across both butt cheeks and down the front of my thighs. I have had MRIs and x-rays and everything is fine other than arthritis. I weaned myself off of morphine and replaced with Norco that I had from before because I am trying to wean myself off of that too and the morphine was a time release so I could not cut it in half but the norco I can cut it in half but 1/2 does not do much only helps a little for a short time. What non-narcotic pain medication can I take? When we go south for the winter and travel around I can t get any Narcotic pain meds. I am only in one place for 2 weeks at a time. I want to get off the Narcotics and try something that I can get easier. My mother had 15 operations on adhesions, I have two daughters that have issues with severe adhesions and I have been thinking for a long time that I have them too where I had my tailbone removed. I appreciate any advice you can give me. Thanks.

Anesthesiologist 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sorry to hear that you and your family is suffering from so many problems. I don't know whether you are too much addicted to your medicines or not but since I got to know from this long message that may be the reason why the pain is severe which is causing you so much of problems.

I am anaesthesiologist, meaning pain doctor in particular. You have landed up in right place for advice. There is something called pain clinic if you don't know about it just google it.

If you go there, Doctors like me do an examination to you and if they find your problem is severe and chronic then they start with painkillers or procedures like nerve blocks, lumbar sympathetic block etcetera. All these are pain relieving procedures, if once done, you will have symptom free months or weeks.

So, consultation visits also will be less and you don't have to take any medicines at all after the procedure. kindly visit such pain clinic.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
