1. Although
lipitor [atorvastatin] does cause
muscle pain, the phenomenon is poorly understood and may cause either muscle pain-
fatigue or weakness, it might be the reason of taking you off of the statin by your doctor.
PS. although muscle pain could be caused by the drug, it might be caused by something else, also some people are more likely to develop side effects from statins, including muscle pain, i.e. those having following risk factors:
. smaller body mass, impaired kidney/liver function, age above 60 years [present],
diabetes. [so check the values]
2. get an appointment with an Orthopedic surgeon regarding your symptoms [since at your age]:
i. hip discomfort could be because of
hip osteoarthritis, AVN [avascular necrosis], bursitis
ii. whereas pain/ discomfort in calf area could be due to DVT [deep vein thrombosis], PVD [peripheral vascular disorder] or simply because of cramps in calf [due to diabetes, calcium/salt deficiency]
PS. The symptoms have to be carefully assessed by your doctor to ensure that whether it requires immediate medical attention or long-term therapy.
