Hi, for the past couple of months I have had the feeling of something in the back of my throat, more to the right side. I figured it was due to the weather, however it has steadily gotten worse. It is becoming painful to swallow and has begun to make my right hear ache. About a week ago I woke up and felt like the right side of my throat was swollen, I began to cough and had small specks of blood coming out. I have been in the US Marines for 9 years and was around open burn pits for 8 months from 2010-2011.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Most probably it is due to pharyngitis (inflammation of your throat) or enlarged tonsil. As of now do warm saline gargles and start a short course of antibiotics. If symptoms persists consult an ENT surgeon and get evaluated. You might require a scopy to visualise your throat. Wishing you good health.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain
