Pathologist and Microbiologist, Dr. Siddartha's Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Throat infection is most commonly caused by virus. Sometimes, it is superadded by bacterial infections.
Viral infections are self limited and resolve with in a week or two. Antibiotics are needed only when you have acquired bacterial infections.
The sputum will become yellowish upon bacterial infection. However, you can take prophylactic antibiotics like levofloxacin or azithromycin.
Please consult physician for more information and management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Siddartha
