What Does Pain In The Upper Arm Indicate?

I have pain at the top of my right arm -- not in the rotator, and not in the shoulder, but in the muscle at the top of my right arm, right below the shoulder. It hurts when I put my arm straight up to take off, or put on, an undershirt. It also hurts when I lay on my right side while sleeping. I have had the pain for about 2 months. I am 54, non-smoker, exercise every day (stretching, push ups, and 1 mile run on a treadmill. Thoughts?

Hello,

The possibility of musculoskeletal pain is more likely. So better to consult an orthopedic doctor and get done a clinical examination and x-ray of the affected shoulder joint.
Apply warm water pad on affected areas.
Avoid heavyweight lifting and strenuous exercise.
Avoid sudden jerky movements of the shoulder.
Take simple painkiller like paracetamol or ibuprofen.
Don't worry you will be alright with all these in 1-2 weeks.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
