What Does Pain In Upper Chest And Shoulders Suggest?

I've had a pretty severe pain on my left side of my upper chest that spreads to my shoulder and under my armpit. It hurts to lay on my left side and to move my left arm in certain directions. It's been getting worse and started almost 2 weeks ago. Will it eventually go away on its own or should I see my family doctor?

Hi

Thanks for posting your query.

Your symptoms are suggestive a condition called Cervical Radiculopathy. It is a condition where the nerve at your neck region gets compressed between the neck bones. These neck nerves supplies sensation to back of neck , shoulder , arm , hand and chest. Since they are getting compressed you are experiencing pain in these regions.

I advise you to get MRI Cervical Spine for the confirmation of diagnosis and to know the severity of the problem. Also start doing slow rotational exercise of neck . Also ask your doctor for a prescription of Pregabalin which needs to be taken for 2-4 months.

Any clarification feel free to ask .

Happy to answer.

Regards.
