What Does Pain Under The Ribcage On The Left Side Indicate?

I am 55 year old female and have felt like I have the flu for about 1 month or longer but I don t. The pain under my left arm in the rib cage area is getting worse and harder to take a deep breath. Also I have went from 5 4 to 5 2 1/2 in just a few months. Not sure if that is related or not. Really short of breath walking very short distances. Very tired all the time. Loss of appetite. Coughing a lot with and without coughing anything up. Cancer runs in my family and it is a little scary. What do you think?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my clinical experience, this indicates lower respiratory tract infection with secondary systemic manifestations. I would recommend to undertake certain lab tests, x-ray chest with or without Ct scan as per the clinical concern.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
