What Does Pain Under The Ribs On The Left Side Indicate?

I fell about 21\2 weeks ago and have had an increasing pain in my left side, kind of under my ribs. It hurts to breathe and get comfortable sitting. I had an xray and the doc says no broken ribs and gave me Lidocain 5% patches, but they are not working at all. What can I do?

In my opinion such pain may be due to lung infection or gastritis,besides being muscular.
An auscultation of chest can give clues regarding underlying lung.
Antacids can be started for controlling reflux symptoms.
Lastly an ECG can be done to see cardiac involvement.
