What Does Pain Underneath The Right Thumbnail Indicate?

I have been experiencing pain underneath my right thumbnail. There is a white mark about 3-4mm deep into the center under the nail. It feels like a splinter was stuck in there, but no splinter went under the thumbnail. I have had the condition for about 3-4 weeks. There is a numbness at the tip of the thumb. Thanks. YYYY@YYYY

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since you are experiencing pain of the thumb nail for about one month, and there is a discoloration under the nail bed, it is possible there is infection, either bacterial or fungal under the nail. This would have to be treated. Please do consult a Dermatologist, who can examine, do the necessary investigations and advise on the management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
