What Does Pain Upon Moving The Arms Indicate?

My 79 year old father is having trouble moving both of his arms and can only lift them to about his shoulders.. It is very painful to him to hardly even move them...we are very troubled by this.. What could it be ?... He s had these symptoms for 3 days now...

Hello,

It may frozen shoulder or supraspinatus tendinitis. He needs x-ray shoulders and clinical examination by an orthopedic surgeon to find the cause. He may need steroid shot besides physiotherapy.
