What Does Painful Lump At The Base Of Ball Of Foot Suggest?

I have a lump at the base (closer to the arch) of the ball of my foot. A podiatrist saw it about a year ago and is unconcerned as have I been, although today noticed a bit of pain near the lump when walking and there us pain in my interior ankle bone when I walk. Any ideas?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and thanks for writing.

A lump near the great toe may be due to several reasons like a callus, or a bony spur or tophi due to gout or any chronic bony deformity. It may be of concern as it may cause constant pain. It needs to be further investigated with a X Ray of the involved part, Serum Uric Acid levels and clinical examination of the part concerned. For these i would suggest you go to a orthopedician and get it examined and suitably investigated to find a cause for you. In the mean while you may try to wear soft sole shoes and cold compress to reduce the pain.

Hope it help you.
