What Does Passing Of Large Clots When On Coumadin Indicate?

I was put on Coumadin after a clotting incident last month in which I lost part of my small intestine. I have been passing large clots about every hour (half the size of a maxi pad, as big as a tennis ball etc.) on what I am assuming is my period. Is this an emergency situation or one in which I would call the doctor on Monday?

Hi,

It is suggestive of Coumadin overdose. Based on the history you seem to be larger doses of the blood thinner Coumadin. I advise you to stop taking this medication and visit the emergency room of a nearby hospital. The bleeding has to be controlled by suitable medications and the dose of coumadin needs to be adjusted.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
