What Does Persistent Swelling In Leg Of A Diabetic Patient Suggest?
My 78 year old mother has a swollen leg. This is an old condition. She has limited mobility of her left leg and left arm. But this left leg is staying swollen. Is there something I can do to relieve the swelling? Should I be concerned that it is a blood clot? She is on 2 high blood pressure medications currently. And she is type II diabetic.
Hi Due to prolong immobility, she can have deep venous thrombosis. It presents with leg swelling, redness & pain. Otherwise, it can be just edema due to immobility. If you suspect any such sign of DVT, go for doppler venous ultrasound of left leg to rule it out. Besides, keep pillow under her feet to elevate limb to reduce swelling. Hope this information helps.
