What Does Pressure In The Chest Indicate?

I have been having some pressure in my chest also when I stand up it takes 1 or 2 minutes to breathe right. I saw a cardiologist yesterday who didn’t want to do any tests except a chemical stress right away. I feel that this is not right because I have a big risk factor. My risk factor is my body produces so much cholesterol that it is barely keep under control by taking Crestor. My father died at age 31 from a heart attack and am 66 years old. Any help would greatly appreciated

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Thanks for your query on HCM

"As"per your clinical history is concerned please follow like this -

1)Do a clinical examination by your treating Doctor and to confirm do a Stress ECG and Coronary angiography.

2)Do take prescribed medication and other procedures after confirmation only.

Do follow few lifestyle modifications like this -

1)Try to stop smoking and avoid exposure to secondhand smoke.

2)If you're overweight, talk to your treating doctor about weight-loss options.

3)If you have diabetes, make sure that it is well-controlled and that you're following an optimal diet and exercise plan.

4)Because angina is often brought on by exertion, it's helpful to pace yourself and take rest breaks.

5)Try to avoid large meals.

6)Try to avoid stress, and try to find ways to relax. Talk with your treating doctor about stress-reduction techniques.

7)Eat a healthy diet with lots of whole grains, many fruits and vegetables, and limited amounts of saturated fat.

8)Talk to your doctor about starting a safe exercise plan.

Hope that helps
