What Does Putting Both Fists In Mouth Of An Infant After Feeding Indicate?
Hi my son is 3 Months old. He is constantly putting both his fists in his mouth even after finishing a good feed. Please advise is this a sign that he is still hungry or he is just trying to comfort himself. He seems very restless and tries to push himself backwards. Is this normal? It's like he is trying to stuff himself with his fingers. I try to remove his fingers n giv him a pacifier sometimes it works n he happily sucks his pacifier. Please advise is pacifier ok to use.
Dear worried mom, Please relax. The range of normal behaviors for an infant are large. At 3 months, a reflex called sucking and rooting reflex are active, where baby tries to put everything in mouth and feel secure. In this case also, your baby feels secure by keeping your nipple, his fingers or the pacifier in the mouth. I would like you to keep your baby in your lap most of the time and best would be to keep him tightly hugged to yourself between your breasts. This gives the infant a warm and secure feeling, you will see your baby grow and become a healthier and happier baby. By the age of 6 months, he/ she will gradually decrease this behavior on their own. God bless n love to your little one.
