What Does "fetus Lateral Ventricle Size Is 7.1mm" Indicate In Second Trimester?
Hello doctor, I am now 30 weeks pregnant. My husband's sibilings(3 boys) were born with down syndrome. Sonographer has mentioned that "the fetus lateral ventricle size is 7.1 mm" in my second trimester ultra sound. I am now worrying so much. I am praying to god that my baby should be normal. My age is 24. please help.
Hi, I have gone through your question. Fetal ventricle size measures normally up to 10 mm in size in a second trimester ultrasound. If it is more than 10 mm, then it is one of the ultrasonographic marker for Downs syndrome, and amniocentesis is then advised in such case. I would suggest you to consult a fetal medicine specialist as your husband had 3 siblings affected with Down syndrome. In such a situation, there can be some chromosomal changes ( translocations) which should be tested in your husbands blood and if present, then should be tested in your fetus by doing amniocentesis. You need not worry for the fetal ventricle size, as it is normal. Hope you found the answer helpful. Wishing you good health.
