hi my husband is 43 years old now. for the past 8 years his vdrl test is reactive. but recently few days back it is nonreactive. even before our marriage his vdrl test is reactive. recently for more than 4 years we don't have any sex. he do have it with girls outside. is this ok
Hi, Welcome to HCM. VDRL is a test to detect a STD called as Syphilis. It is a highly sensitive test but not very specific. That means it may be reactive in conditions other than Syphilis also in low titre and called as Biological False positive. There more Specific tests available to confirm whether he had Syphilis or not? Following treatment, VDRL can become Non reactive. If your husband has relation ship with multiple sex partners he is under risk of HIV/STDs. Dr S.Murugan
