Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
It s 9:30 Christmas Eve, I have company now and and I have 20 people coming to my house tomorrow for a big day of celebrating. I just went to the bathroom and there was quite a bit of bright red blood, which is coming from my rectum. I ve never had any GI symptoms, I m on a vegan diet so I go regularly and easily. I have been taking ibuprofen every day, 400-600 mg a day and I take a low dose 80 mg aspirin at bedtime. Since I have no pain associated with this bleeding, I m thinking the ibuprofen/aspirin may be causing it. I just want to know if there s something I can do now to stop the bleeding (obviously, I won t take any more of those pain meds) and if I can wait to address this until Dec 26.
You should stop this medicine if there is not any strong indication of it. Ibuprofen is bad for gastric mucosa and leads to gastric erosions or ulcers which can bleed, and aspirin can also lead to bleeding.
But besides that spicy food, irregularity in food intake, hard stools are causes of fissure-in-ano which can cause per rectum bleeding so you should consult to rule out that.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
