What Does Reddish Brown Vaginal Discharge After Stopping Femilon Indicate?

Hi doctor. I was taking contraceptive( femilon) for three months and stopped using it. Now it has been nearly two months since I have stopped using this tablet. After stopping the tablet during my first month for around two to three days I had reddish brown discharge. My period is regular. During my second month. During my second month I got white discharge for few days then browish black discharge everyday.From yesterday I am getting Bright red discharge along with two to three drops of blood. When I checked with doctor she says my period has started. But my period is supposed start on 27th July. Trapic, doxy, flagyl and rantac tablets were prescribed. Should I take them or wait till my periods is over and then do a pap smear. TVS- normal. Medical Examination- no infection seen.

Hi,

Menstrual irregularities are common after stopping femilon. Heavy bleeding, spotting or delayed bleeding may occur in many women. These effects will reduce in the next cycles when your body adjusts to the new hormone levels. Continue the drugs prescribed and you can wait for a few more days for your periods to resume. Pelvic ultrasound or Pap smear can be taken after this period.
