What Does Redness Around A Surgical Incision Indicate?
I got a spot removed on my arm 10 days ago and am supposed to have the stitches removed on the 19th. The central portion of the incision turned black yesterday and now the area around the incision is very red. It has also become very painful. My doc cant see me until Wednesday because im out of state on business. Should I go to an ER for this?
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
Yes, I think you should see doctor since this indicates wound infection nad there may be necrosis and pus collection which may need to be drained out. Also, you may need antibiotic therapy for this if infection is severe. Try to clean wound 3 times daily with warm water and soap and apply sterile compress on it. But if there is deeper infection, then pus drainage is required so it would be better to seek medical professional for it, although this is not something critical and it should not affect wound scarring later.
Hope this answers your question. If you have additional questions or follow up questions then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your questions.
Wishing you good health.
