What Does Redness On Knee Of A Child Indicate?

hi my daughter (10 months) went swimming for the first time on sunday for about 45 minutes. after getting her out we noticed that she had very red knees. they were not open cuts or grazed just very red. Later that night they were still red and even a little swollen. its now Wednesday and they appear to look grazed/burn.. cracked open what would this be from? and what can I do to help as she will not put her left knee on the floor when crawling. thank you..

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It appears to be more like inflammation due to trauma over the knee as her knees would have rubbed against some surface. I would advise you to apply some local emollients and anti-inflammatory ointments like capsaicin. Also, give some rest to the area and avoid rubbing against any surface. If the condition doesn't improve over few days time then I would recommend a review with a dermatologist however I feel it will get resolved with above medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
