I HAVE PAIN ON MY BACK ON THE RIGHT SIDE. i THOUGHT IT WAS KIDNEY INFECTION BUT IT S NOT. i WENT TO MY DIABETIC DOCTOR SAID MY KIDNEY FUNCTION SEEMS TO BE FINE. STILL IN PAIN. I ALTERNATE HEAT AND COLD PACKS. GOING ON TWO WEEKS. I TAKE GABIPINTIN AND tIZANIDINE IT JUST MAKES IT SO I CAN SLEEP 2-3 HOURS AT NIGHT. i HAVE ALSO BEEN TO URGENT CARE THEY DON T KNOW. SO WHAT SHOULD I DO?
A normal kidney function does not rule out kidney infection or kidney stones.
If the pain is not affected by touch or movement, I would recommend you to have a urinalysis to rule out urinary infection and also an abdominal ultrasound to check the kidneys, gallbladder, liver, etc.
Sometimes urinary stones are not visualized in the ultrasound examination and an X-ray of the abdomen might help better. The best approach would be to see your doctor:
- if the pain is affected by touch and movement very likely it is due to muscles and you will need to take paracetamol and Ibuprofen and see a physiotherapist to help you with therapy to relax muscles and release the pain.
- if the pain is not affected by touch or movement then very likely it is due to inner organs and the above tests (urinalysis, abdominal ultrasound and abdominal X-ray examination) are needed.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Zotaj Antoneta, General & Family Physician
