Dear Doctor, I recently developed itching all over my body which subsides on taking Citrizine. I underwent a complete diagnostic test which showed that my total cholesterol was 254, triglycerides were 243, LDL was 178 and HDL was 50. To Sum up, my entire lipid profile was out of range and the readings were on a moderate to higher side. My SGPT was 95 and SGOT was 45. Vitamin D was low at 5.06 ng/ml which is lower than the reqd 20. Fasting sugar is at 107 which is slightly high Creatinine is marginally low at 0.88 my/dl Rest all readings are normal. My appetite is good. My weight is normal. I drink occasionally once a month. Do not smoke. can you please advise as to why am I itching. Interestingly, I feel the sensation only when I am awake.... Thanking you..

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Your blood tests are quite normal except for a high LDL. You need to do regular exercise, at least half an hour per day, avoid oily, fatty and junk food. Then your LDL cholesterol may come down to normal. If in spite of all these things it doesn't come to normal you may have to be started on lipid lowering drugs like Atorvastatin.

But this is not related to the generalized itching which you are having.

You might be having some allergic rashes. Allergy can develop due to several reasons- some foods like egg, fish, pollen grains, animal hair, nylon, terylene clothes. Just try to find out what you are allergic to and avoid it. Try home remedies. Apply coconut oil daily three times a day for one week. If you are not better consult a dermatologist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
