What Does Severe Pain At The Base Of The Thumb Indicate?

I have shooting/ stabbing like pain in my right hand at the base of my thumb. It has occurred to a lesser degree in my left hand as well. It may last for one to two weeks before resolving. If I tuck my thumb into a fist shape with my fingers pressing on it or press my hand against a surface to stretch my thumb it helps some. Is this possibly arthritis?

u should go for steroid injection which help u relieve if inflammation present around a joint.....this should be done only if there was no history of injury to your thumb and NO fracture or dislocation of joint....later one more dose of steroid injection might be required
