What Does Severe Pain In The Abdomen On The Left Side Indicate?
I have a sharp ache in my left side. It is not under a rib. It began as a dull ache about 24 hours ago. It was intermittent. Now it is sharp. I tried heat and I tried cold. I took a tylenol 3, three hours ago. I slept and now it is hurting. I began taking an antibiotic- clindamycin a couple of days ago. What could be causing it? I am taking the drug for an abcess on a tooth. My email is YYYY@YYYY
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query about your husband and here are my thoughts.
You are taking Clindamycin since three days hence this is most probably be the reason for the pain on the left side of abdomen. The commonest causes are as follows: Colitis. Diverticulitis. Left uretric colic. This can be diagnosed by clinical evaluation and examination by a Doctor or a General Surgeon preferably. Also go for the tests of stool, blood and urine. Ultrasonography of abdomen and if needed a CT scan helps clarify the clinical diagnosis for proper plan of management.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Regards, Dr. T Chandrakant
