What Does Severe Pain In The Chest Indicate?

My 21 year old son began having sudden squeezing chest pains, front to back center/sternum area of chest, about 6 years ago within a couple days of having his gall bladder removed. This pain comes sporadically, used to be once a month maybe. It s now happening about 2 xs a week and getting to where it s taking his breath away. It comes on suddenly and at different times of day- he has woken up with it, been sitting in class, driving a car, out at a club.... I don t know what kind of doc to look for- our primary keeps saying it s probably muscles but NOPE it s not. Any thoughts or suggestions? my email is YYYY@YYYY

hi mam/sir,i can understand your distress.most common cause of chest pain in young is muscular in origin.but as you suspect some other cause, just check the following once:
1)if there is any profuse sweating, dizziness and breathlessness during the attack,we can think of angina.he can have an ECG,2D ECHO done to confirm if any.
2)if there is any history of usage of narcotic drugs or anti depressants,we can think of anxiety.
3)he can also have a chest X-ray AP and PA views done to rule out any lung and bony(rib cage and sternal causes).
if all the above come normal, ask him to have an analgesic like ibuprofen and to allay his anxiety, the following can be done:
1)a good sleep for atleast 6-8hrs.
2)he can go for mind relaxation techniques like meditation and yoga.
3)indulging in sports also makes a happy mind and a strong body.
4)counselling also helps to overcome anxiety.
hope my explanation has cleared your doubts.still any queries, kindly let me know.thank you.take care.bye.
