What Does Severe Pain In The Chest On The Left Side Indicate?

I have had severe pain for three weeks in my left chest, side and back area. Finally went to dr. and he thought it was some inflammation of the lining of lungs or heart. Chest x rays showed nothing. I am taking Mitigare and a wee bit better this a.m. Any ideas on what else it could be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As chest pain is for three weeks, rule out the cardiac cause by EKG investigation. Normal chest x-ray means respiratory cause seem to be less likely.

Rule out abdominal cause like Gastritis if present which can lead to referred pain. Consult a physician for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
