Hello,
The symptoms you have described regarding the pain of your heels, strongly suggest that you could be having
plantar fasciitis. This ailment is usually a clinical diagnosis, which if required can be confirmed by an
MRI examination of the foot. This usually, but not necessarily, occurs in those who have to be on their feet for long time. The pain occurs during the first few steps you take after a period of rest.
The treatment of this condition is by (1) Gradual plantar fascia stretching exercises and (2) Footwear with soft pressure distributing insoles, to be worn at all times.
There are three main plantar fascia stretching exercises, each to be done for 3 to 5 minutes twice a day. They should be done with gradual stretching of the plantar fascia. It is best learnt by direct one to one demonstration. A Podiatric surgeon would be able to demonstrate you these. If this is not possible, you can also get them in the internet. The most important aspect is that these should be done to gradually stretch the plantar fascia without excessive stretching or any jerky movements. You would get very good results in about 4 week time.
Proper foot wear is also very important. Materials like Ethyl Vinyl Acetate, Poron, Plastazote, and Silicon are appropriate. A 5 millimeter medial
arch support is good. You would get them in foot wear institutes specializing in making custom made foot wear, like for Diabetic patients.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ajit Kumar Varma
