General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is understandable to be concerned re severe pain. In many persons there may not be a serious cause, but it would not be possible to know the exact cause if you are not examined. Shooting pain can sometimes be related to nerves in the area, this is called neuralgia. There are different causes of neuralgia and many are temporary and treatable.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
