Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a college cross country and track athlete. I m dealing with a knee injury and I ve been doing pt for the past few months. When I do certain exercises I have a painful pulling/stretching feeling along the inner side of my knee especially when I am doing squats and lunges. Do you have any idea what the reason could be?
Since you are recovering from a knee injury, it is not advisable for you to do any strenuous exercises which will cause further strain on your knees and delay healing. You have not mentioned what kind of knee injury you suffered. If your knee was immobilized for a long period after the injury, then it may be the reason for the stretching feeling as it takes time for the muscles to function properly again after a period of disuse. If it was a ligament or meniscal injury, then it may be possible that you have not recovered properly. In that case, you should avoid doing squats and lunges before your doctor allows it. Apply an ice pack to the area to relieve any inflammation. You can take over the counter painkillers like Advil to reduce pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma.amman
