Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My 18 year old daughter has been having extreme knee pain. She saw the orthopedic doc last week and had an MRI since the Xrays appeared normal. Saw the doc today for a recheck to go over results and he says her knee is structurally fine and there is nothing to worry about but we need to treat the pes ansurine bursitis with therapy. She says it swells every day and the pain is unbearable at times at night. I got a copy of the report and saw the following diagnosis on the report. There are 1cm enchondromas of the proximal fibula and distal femur metaphysis. The ortho made no mention of this whatsoever even though we tried to tell him about her pain. While it may be all coming from the pes ansurine bursitis, I was wondering if we should get another opinion from a doc who treats bone tumors. We have spent the last year treating my 13 year old for an aneurysmal bone cyst in the pelvis so I m a bit leery to let this go until we know for sure that it is just a benign tumor that is nothing to worry about. Would it be wise to have an opinion from the bone doc who has been treating my younger daughter for her ABC? Thanks for you time.
The severe pain in the knees indicate possible inflammation of the knee from various reasons.
Considering Enchondroma of the MRI mention, I recommend to undertake an arthroscopy guided biopsy of the same for final tissue diagnosis and further management.
Always welcome for further doubts here. Take care.
