What Does Severe Pain In The Legs And Knees Indicate?
Hello, I was just walking around earlier. Shopping with family. Nothing out of the ordinary, but then my knee did a sort of buckle and went backwards and now I have extreme pain all in my leg even laying down and not moving it has throbbing pain, it hurts to walk but it s doable. Do you have any idea what could have or maybe happened?
Knee buckling or unstable knee can be caused due to a number of causes. If this keeps on repeating then there may be an underlying cause.
Some of the common causes of unstable knee are Injury like ACL tear, nerve damage most common being femoral nerve damage, osteoarthritis.
There is a condition called plica syndrome in which there is inflammation of the medial plica which may also lead to unstable knee. If this keeps on recurring, then you may need to get yourself checked by an orthopaedician.
Meanwhile, you should rest the leg and apply ice pack. If the pain is severe take an over the counter painkillers like Advil medicine. If you have difficulty walking, you can brace the knee.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma Amman
