What Does Severe Pain In The Lower Abdomen Indicate?

I HAVE A PRETTY BAD BURNING PAIN IN MY ABDOMEN. THE PAIN IS LOCATED ABOUT HALF WAY BETWEEN MY BELLY BUTTON LINE AND PANTY LINE AND OFF TO THE LEFT. THE PAIN HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE LAST NIGHT AND HAS BEEN SEVERE ENOUGH TO WAKE ME FROM MY SLEEP MULTIPLE TIMES. WHAT COULD THIS POSSIBLY BE? DO I NEED TO SEE A DOC?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, you need to get examined once because if you had upper abdominal pain then it would be gastritis. Since you say it's lower abdominal so it could be anything from the intestine, appendix, ovaries, or uterus pathology.

Since we don't know what could be causing you pain, you need to be examined first and then based on the ultrasound report, other diagnosis can be worked out.

If both are normal, then we can try treating you symptomatically. So, just understand the constraints of online consultation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
