What Does Severe Pain On The Left Side Of The Head Indicate?

I have a stabbing, intermittent pain on the left side of my head that s very painful and scary when it strikes. I had this symptom 10 to 12 years ago in different parts of my head, saw a neurologist who diagnosed something akin to arthritis, as I recall. It subside for all these years, and now has been back for the past two days. What do you think and suggest?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Arthritis won't come to the head. I don't know, I have not heard about such cases, it may be. If you are having then its tension headache or migraine or cluster headache of the left side of your head.

Leaving your past history, if you want to get treated for a headache then take aspirin paracetamol combination tablets for some time to get relief from pain. If it's still getting worse then you can always go for MRI but it's not necessary for now.

Rule out if you have dizziness, nausea, vomiting, blurring of vision then it could be a migraine and you have to see a neurologist for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Archana
