What Does Severe Pain On The Right Side Of The Back Indicate?

I have severe pain on my right side toward my back but only upon getting up after laying down (even for a short amount of time). The pain doesn t last long but it is severe. This has been going on for several months but it is getting worse (I m a 60 yr old male, no conditions, no meds).

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The causes of pain on the right side of the back are:
1) Injury or trauma
2) Muscle pulling or sprain
3) Renal stone
4) Renal infection
5) May sometimes appendicitis

For that, you can do ultrasound abdomen and pelvis and x-ray back. You can also take tablet Ibuprofen. Go for physiotherapy as advised, keep yourself well hydrated and take rest.

I will suggest you to review here with detailed history or consult with the surgeon or orthopedician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shyam B. Kale
