What Does Severe Pain On The Right Side Of The Face Indicate?

I am 62, female, and just had a severe pain shoot up the right side of my face from the jaw up. There was only one pain, but my jaw is not opening easily and does hurt when I move it or touch the other side so my jaw. I do have some coronary artery disease, under control. Should I get checked out tonight? That is the only symptom.

Hi.
Thanks for the query..

Pain on right side of face along with difficulty in opening the jaw can be related to disturbance in the jaw joints..

It can be pointing towards TMJ/TMD that can be due to causes like teeth grinding or clenching of teeth, loss of teeth with age, jaw joint injury, arthritic changes etc..

So first of all consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated..

A Panoromic x ray can be done to rule out the exact cause of the pain..

You can be advised a course of muscle relaxants and painkillers to reduce pain and stiffness..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
