What Does Severe Pain Under The Left Breast Indicate?

I have sever pain in the area under my left breast. I am 65 yrs old and had stage 1 ductile breast cancer. all mammograms have been clear. Including the last one 2 months ago. The pain can take my breath away and will radiate into the back of my chest. I am a a Vet and have been to the VA several times this year about the pain, but they can seam to find anything. The pain is very sharp and has started to be constant. Can you help me, I need some idea of what direction to go to get relief.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pain along the left lower chest below breast, in a known case of stage I ductile breast cancer can be due to one of the following reasons:
Costochondritis as the commonest reason.
Local invasion of cancer into the muscles and/or ribs.
Spinal problem in itself like compression of nerves or may be secondary of cancer.
Hence I would advise you the following.
Please discuss these possibilities with your Doctor as you are a VA entitled person.
Request for an MRI of the spine and the chest wall.
Clinical examination by a General Surgeon.
All these things will lead to a proper diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
