What Does Severe Pain Under The Right Shoulder Blade And Chest Indicate?

For a week I had severe pains under my right shoulder blade going around to my chest. Towards the end of the week I developed a severe cough with some flem being expelled which was light yellow and soft. I still have the severe cough and when they start I can hardly stop them ,because they are dry and keep rolling It has been about 2 weeks now. I have some fairly good days If I keep my lungs relaxed and try not to cough with throat lozenges, tea, and water vapor. When my throat gets dry, especially at night, it is hard to control the cough. I am down in Arizona now and with the flu going on, it is almost impossible to see a dr if you do not have a local dr.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is possible that you may have bronchitis, this is inflammation of a part of the airways (bronchi). It can be due to viral or bacterial infection.

Bronchitis can be associated with closure of the airways and this contributes to the coughing. This can occur even if a person is not asthmatic.

You may need a short course of oral steroids if possible to reduce the inflammation.

If it is not possible that using a cough suppressant, a lot of fluids, humidifier may help somewhat.

I hope this helps.
