Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Severe Weakness In The Hands And Legs Indicate?
I have been experiencing profound weakness in my hands and arms. Also balance control is an issue. Initially this began with painful stabs throughout my body and now have trouble walking. These are the most prevalent symptoms coming on for over a year now. I have a neurologist that has done no testing, wants to prescribe anti depressant meds and says at 63 I am too old for MS. What say you?
Hi .welcome to "Ask A Doctor service". I have read your question and here is my advice your neuralogist may be right it's not the age but they can understand the disease .Howe'ver if there are really weakness and ataxia then only depressive illness is unlikely , and you should see hum for a second opinion. 63 yeas is not a classical age of MS , but it is well possible at this age. second is that there are a lot of other neuralogical diseases that can be there so if you have weakness and ataxia then you should see him again..Though he may be very right. Hopes I have answered your question. I will be glad to answer any further question about this. Kind Regards Dr Rahman
