Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Silver Crescent Shaped Flash Of Light In Peripheral Vision Indicate?
I have a silver crescent shaped flash of light in the peripheral vision of my right eye. It is most noticeable in the dark but I suspect it is there all the time. I have seen my optometrist and he tells me there is no damage to my retna. I also have discussed this with my neurologist and he suspects it is related to my migraines. My concern is that it is so consist. I wanted to make sure there is nothing more I need to be watching for so I don t have more issues later.
While there are many reasons you may see flashes of light in your eye, pressure or force on the retina are most often the causes. Probable causes are ophthalmic causes, posterior vitreous detachment, optic neuritis, retinal detachment, and pressure on retina by rubbing eyes.
Other causes are occipital epilepsy, migraine, transient ischemic attack, diabetes, various eye tumors, injury to the eye or some medications like Clomiphene, and Sildenafil. If your ophthalmologist said your retina is perfect, then you must think of other causes. Treatment always depends upon the cause.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pallavi M., Anesthesiologist
