What Does Sore Throat Along With Stiffness In The Neck Indicate?
My 18 yr old daughter away at college has had a sore throat and headache for several days and now her neck is stiff and it hurts to move it. She says the neck is the worst part. She feels miserable. She s tried Claritin, ibuprofen and sudefed yesterday. Tried Tylenol cold and flu today, nothing has helped. The stiff neck is what concerns me
1. as you are concerned with 'neck stiffness' thus an immediate visit to an ER [emergency room] is warranted to exclude Meningitis.
PS. An immediate Neurologist opinion and C.T. scan [if needed] is required since best treatment is to address the underlying cause.
2. later you can consult an ENT specialist who will inspect the throat with a good torch and tongue depressor to exclude any other pathology. [pharyngitis, laryngitis, and bronchitis], also the choice of antibiotic will vary from doctor to doctor and from locality to locality.
