What Does Soreness Below The Ribcage On The Left Side Indicate?

On my lower left side, it is tender and sore to the touch, doesn’t hurt sitting walking only when I push on the body just below rib cage. Feels like a muscle pull, but concerned it may be connected with my kidney, just had my annual wellness exam and blood tests were all ok including kidney function. Heat seems to help.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per your history, it seems to be a muscular strain pain.

Heat is having a soothing effect in that, as you are improving with the heat compress. It is more likely a muscular pain.

An anti-inflammatory drug, like Ibuprofen, can be prescribed.

Avoid movement that causing pain. Take rest in a comfortable supine position.

If no improvement occurs, then ultrasound abdomen will be done.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami
