Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have a condition of a soreness with my glans penis. I had my MD check it but did not see anything. I inquired the internet about it and was given the term Balanitis. I have been researching the term and I found pictures that resemble my problem. I searched the term and read that an infection can cause this condition. Here is my question on the subject. I am an MS Patient with a Supra-pubic Catheter. I constantly have indications of a UTI because of a strong smell and dark Urine. I also have a minor discharge from the penis. I have been told that it will always be like this because of the Catheter. My reading of the infection makes me wonder if my constant UTI can cause this. Will you please comment on this and give a suggestion as to what I can do to clear it. Thank you Kenneth R Walters
Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
* As there is soreness, it suggests underlying infection in terms of bacteria, virus or fungi.
* In our clinic, I recommend a swab test from the part along with urine culture to find out the causative organism and manage accordingly.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
