I wake up a lot of the mornings with stiff and swollen fingers, my toes are also very stiff. My feet hurt to step down on in the mornings. I also have a great deal of difficulty getting up from a sitting position if in it to long. I am 52 years old Just mention I also have hip pain and going up and down stairs is painful in the hip area and knees
You may have osteoarthritis. Do you smoke or consume alcohol? Have you attained menopause? Do you have any other medical issues or take any medications? I recommend: -A physician and orthopedic consult. Rheumatologist consult if needed -X-rays of the affected joints. MRI if indicated. -Blood tests (complete blood count, thyroid profile, liver and kidney function tests, calcium, phosphorus levels) -Urine tests. Most of the time, medications help to deal with symptoms. If too severe or of normal routine life being hindered, then surgery may be required.
