Are you a Diabetic? Do you have varicose veins? These are the usual causes of this type of swelling of the foot. People having cardiac issues, liver, renal problems can also have swelling of feet, but they usually bilateral. It may be good to get yourself tested for Diabetes, by blood sugar fasting, two hours after food and HbA1C. Also, a venous Doppler of both lower limbs would rule out any varicose veins. If any such ailment exists, they should be treated. However, to prevent swelling of your left foot, you may wear compression stockings form toes to knees. These may be worn from morning to night.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
