Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Does Swelling And Tingling Sensation On The Lips Indicate?
I was recently seen at a walk-in clinic for lip swelling and tingling. I woke up that way. It was contained to the left side of my face, upper and lower lips visibly swollen. My left cheek and jaw were visibly swollen as well. It did not radiate above my cheek bone. My eye movement was normal on that side with no visible facial drooping. The doctor was stumped as to the cause but treated me with a shot of Depo-Medrol, which eventually helped with the swelling. The cheek muscles on that side of my face feel fatigued today and the lip swelling is gone. They mentioned possible causes as allergic reaction (but I had no other respiratory symptoms), stress (which I have been very stressed lately), or bells palsy (but I had no facial drooping or eye issues). Any ideas?
Your symptoms are not pointing towards Bell's palsy rather it looks more like an Allergic reaction leading to swelling of face and lips. If there is still any doubt you can go for an allergy test as well as an MRI Scan to check for both allergy as well as Bell’s palsy.
For now, you should keep a watch on your face and see if the weakness improves. If the weakness worsens or the movement of face gets compromised you should immediately consult an Emergency room.
For now, you should do alternate warm and cool compresses over the face. Avoid stress and take sufficient rest. Start doing meditation.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
