General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I understand your concern.

Swollen and warm hand is indicating an inflammatory process. Arthritis is a possible cause. However, I should rule out local trauma or tissue damages.
Please send a photo of your friend's hand to evaluate the swelling and changes myself.

For the moment, advise to:
- keep the hand well raised
- apply cold compresses locally
- take anti-inflammatory meds like ibuprofen or naproxen

If still swollen, should see his physician as soon as possible.

Wish fast recovery.
